The use of artificial intelligence can contribute to higher-quality legal outcomes!

As mentioned in our previous article, it is clear that the use of artificial intelligence can significantly increase the efficiency of lawyers. What may be less obvious is that artificial intelligence can also contribute to more robust and higher-quality legal outcomes.

Although the human mind is a remarkable phenomenon and even outperforms the most advanced computers in many respects, it is nevertheless prone to inaccuracy, slowness, and bias.

In a world where regulatory frameworks are becoming increasingly complex and sources of law are widely dispersed, there is a risk that lawyers may overlook factors that are relevant to legal analysis. Over time, case materials have also tended to grow in volume, making their review more time-consuming. There are even instances where attorneys have simply been unable to read all the case materials, as noted by Gestur Jónsson, Supreme Court attorney (see: Vísir, warning about the role of a special prosecutor).

With the right methodology, artificial intelligence can be used to address these challenges. AI is capable of processing vast amounts of data in a short period of time while significantly increasing the accuracy of analyses of legal sources and case materials. This is because it works systematically through all available data without fatigue and remains on track when instructions are clear and the task is well defined.

The risk that artificial intelligence will base its analysis on bias or preconceived notions is negligible, provided that its processing is limited to the data it is instructed to analyze. Under such conditions, artificial intelligence can not only contribute to more thorough legal analysis, but also promote greater consistency in the resolution of comparable cases, thereby strengthening legal certainty.
